Gehtika: Unconventional manicism

31/08/12  ||  gk

This album starts with a sample of The Ink Spots’ Into each life some rain must fall which made me a bit unsure about what I was going to get but soon enough, the sample dies and first song “Archai” sets the tone for the rest of the album. What we have here is basically some pretty nondescript groove thrash with lots of breakdowns, very mediocre vocals and the occasional part in a few songs that manage to rise above mediocrity. There isn’t anything here that’s actively bad but at the same time, very little that grabbed me by the throat and forced me to pay attention. The over use of breakdowns, done in the most unimaginative way possible, also pushes “Unconventional manicism” into more of a metal core direction. Sprinkle in the odd bit of “inspiration” from Meshuggah and Pantera and the album manages to tick almost every single box when it comes to clichéd, unoriginal modern metal. I’ll give them an extra point for The Ink Spots but there’s nothing to see here.

4/10: Really, really boring.
